      Hello,
      There is no effective way to turn off our senses. What happens in sleep is that at some point our cognitive processing of sensation changes, that is our higher brain functions allow us to ignore certain sensory input but that depends on the intensity of this input. For example some sounds awaken someone no matter what stage they are in their sleep.
